The newly formed company of Ardnamushrooms in Strontian grows organic, gourmet edible fungi on woody substrates in a climate controlled container. Initial sales of fresh and dried mushrooms, mainly Shiitake, were primarily to shops, hotels and restaurants, in Lochaber. We can also be found at some of the shows during the summer.

Ardnamushrooms also produces kits so you can grow your own mushrooms. Currently these are just for Shiitake but we hope to produce kits for oyster and Lion's Mane mushrooms in the future.

Ardnamushrooms uses a recently-developed system for growing saprophytic fungi. For details of this see the Production Method page. The system was developed in China and adapted by Richard Edwards of Humungus Fungus. Shiitake mushrooms are also being grown in Skye using this method. Mr. Edwards is providing both technical support and the innoculated grain.
