Due to other work commitments at present - there will be no grow-your-own kits available until
further notice. We apologise if this causes any inconvenience. The website will be updated when kits are available again.
Robert and Justine have been working for a local charity,
Lochaber Environmental Group, for the last 6 months and have managed to secure Climate Challenge Fund support to continue
the project for another year. The details of the first project, RENEW, are found here
http://www.lochaber-environmental-group.org.uk/renew.aspThe second phase of the project, to run until March 2012, is
the Lochaber Initiative on Fuel and Energy (LIFE) aiming to widen the client
base within Lochaber by addressing fuel poverty issues. The Project aims to reduce energy and fuel consumption and thus Lochaber’s
carbon footprint through: - participative projects to raise awareness with the use of home energy monitors and thermal imaging techniques
- providing information on insulation and other home energy saving methods
- providing support to encourage the use of local renewable fuel and energy sources.
Therefore
we will be taking a sabbatical from mushrooms this year in order to work on this project. We will let everyone know when
we are back to mushroom production. Once again we apologise for any inconvenience this causes, and appreciate all your custom
in the past.

Ardnamushrooms in Strontian grows organic, gourmet edible fungi on woody substrates in a climate controlled container.
Initial sales of fresh and dried mushrooms, mainly Shiitake, were primarily to shops, hotels and restaurants, in Lochaber.
We can also be found at some of the shows during the summer.

Ardnamushrooms also produces kits so you can grow your own mushrooms. Usually the types are Shiitake, Oyster
and Lion's Mane mushrooms, but we currently have other work commitments so they will not be available until further notice.

Ardnamushrooms uses a recently-developed system for growing saprophytic fungi. For details of this see the Production Method
page. The system was developed in China and adapted by Richard Edwards of
Humungus Fungus. Shiitake mushrooms are also being grown in Skye using this method.
